The President of Fruit Bearers’ Ministry, Evang. Oluwaseun Adejumobi has shared some of the lessons he learnt within his 18 months in marriage with his beautiful wife, Ifeoluwa Adejumobi. The gospel filmmaker made this open during an interview session with the Punch Newspaper where he answered some questions asked about his marriage.
According to Seun Adejumobi, within his 18months in marriage, he has learnt to be ‘intentional about being responsible, possess a forgiving heart, and also reach a compromise with his spouse even when he is right’.
The gospel filmmaker further advised the yet-to-be married when asked the ‘qualities singles should watch out for in their to-be spouse’ to look beyond physical attractions and emotional attachment when considering who to settle down with and spend the rest of their lives with. The filmmaker said getting involved or entangled with someone who does not have direction for his/her life is a marital tragedy and settling down with someone who has no fear of God in him/her may be disastrous. Where did you meet your spouse?
The Mount Zion Drama Ministry usually organises a quarterly Drama Ministers Power Night. I met my wife for the first time at one of the editions of the programme held at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State.
How did you become friends?
After our meeting that night, we got talking. Somehow, there was an attraction from that night, something beyond just meeting a regular person, there was something extraordinary. There was a burning desire in me to know her more, so the friendship kicked off from there.
How did you propose to her?
I discovered in a short time that her purpose in life and mine were in sync. I shared my vision with her and she was not afraid to declare her willingness to stand by me and help me in fulfilling the vision.
When I saw the attributes in her, I didn’t waste time letting my intentions known to her. We didn’t have any public proposal. It was to just make my intentions known to her. There was no engagement ring and no kneeling. We were united by one thing; fulfilling purpose.
When did you marry?
We got married in August 2020, seven months after we met.
What was the most memorable thing for you at your wedding?
One memorable thing about my wedding was the special love showered on us by fellow drama ministers that travelled from far and near to attend our wedding. Our wedding was held during the COVID-19 period. There were a lot of restrictions as to what number of people should gather for an event. The venue was prepared to host only 50 guests.
Also, the presence of my father in the Lord, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye who came to pronounce the blessing on our marriage was a major memory for us as well.
What are important lessons you learnt from marriage?
Marriage has taught me to be intentional about being responsible. It also taught me to be intentional about having a forgiving heart. I have learnt to be accountable to my partner and to reach a compromise with my spouse even when I am right.
What are the core values that you would say have helped your family?
We have made it a decision to acknowledge the place of God in our marriage as the solid rock, to love unconditionally beyond the feelings, making it a decision to love regardless and be transparent with one another.
What qualities should singles watch out for in their to-be spouses?
My advice to singles will be that, beyond the emotional and physical attraction, it is important to marry for a purpose. Don’t marry a man or woman who does not have a purpose for his or her life. Don’t get involved with someone who is without direction for their life.
Also, don’t settle down with someone who has no fear of God at all. Be Truthful to yourself and your God. Let your decision go beyond the beats of your feelings.
