Gospel film editor and music producer, Joshua Mike-Bamiloye a.k.a Jaymikee has stated that there is nothing wrong when a gospel artists request for money as compensation when invited to minister at events.

This came on board following a question asked by a twitter user with the username @sammiesaliu asking if it is ‘okay’ when gospel music artists ‘charge people’ just to ‘worship God’.

He further registered that some gospel artists go the extent of having categories of seats that suits the ticket they purchase.

Responding to this, Joshua Mike-Bamiloye shared his opinion as he stated that a gospel artist has the right to charge except God is insisting such minister makes it free. He revealed that there is no free concert anywhere as those posing free are being sponsored by ‘kingdom financers’.

He also noted that the negativity attached to money related matters with gospel ministers should be stopped because the works of the gospel needs money to run freely without friction. SEE THE DISUCSSION BELOW;

@SammieSaliu; You have a concert. A “Gospel Music” concert, and you’re charging people to worship God? As if that’s not even problematic enough, you now have classifications for the audience. Table, VIP, and Normal. For a GOSPEL MUSIC CONCERT. How is this okay????

Jaymikee:  Look, except a gospel artist charges excessively, there’s nothing wrong in them placing a fee. See it as a support for the work. Artists need money to make these things happen. If a gospel artist isn’t specifically led to make it free, he doesn’t have to.

You see, free gospel concerts and crusades are still paid for by people/someone. Someone sponsored. People sowed, people gave to make it happen. They’re called kingdom financiers. Let’s stop attaching negativity to every mention of money

I might not be fund of categorizating via ticket prices, but in the end, it’s still a concert there are ways it’s run. Preaching that involved any form of art is not just evangelism but EVANGE-TAINEMT.

So If you don’t want to pay them, worship God in your house/church

Recall that in 2021, Welu Welu crooner, Late Sammie Okposo also stated that like his peers doing secular music, gospel artistes should always charge to perform at churches and sell tickets for their concerts.

Sharing his sentiment on if it is morally right for gospel musicians to charge for their concerts and performances, Okposo who was arguably one of Nigeria’s leading gospel brands, in an interview on HipTV said there’s no wrong in it.

He said: “I think the fact that you are a gospel artiste doesn’t change what you have to deal with in terms of making your music. The same studio that a secular artiste will go to is the same studio a gospel artiste will go to, and you will pay the same fees to bring out your sound.

A director of a music video is a creative person. All he does is listen to your song and be able to interpret it. So, if a secular artiste is paying him a certain amount of money, he’s not going to do it for free because you are a gospel artiste. You are going to pay the same amount that a secular artiste will pay to make sure your videos project properly.”

“So, why will a gospel artiste not be able to do an event and charge gate fees when a secular and gospel artiste will go through the same process of creating the music?” the music star queried.

Okposo continued: “You pay for promotions, you pay to shoot the videos, you pay musicians who come and sing and play, you pay for the artwork… You pay for everything! So, the expression is different but the process is the same… I don’t belong to that school of thought, I have charged for concerts.

When I’m doing a professional concert that is not a church meeting, I have paid for the hall, lights, I’ve paid for media and publicity and all kind of things. At some point, I need to make back my capital, if I make profits, it’s fantastic but I don’t want to throw in money don’t the drain.

“Chargin for concerts is an individual thing. When I did my concert in London, I sold out. People were like they love my music and they would buy my tickets, I pleasantly sold out! And I’ve done the same in Lagos at different times and I’m not going to stop…

Gospel artistes should charge for their performances if they choose to, and they should charge for their professional concerts, especially when they’ve put in money to make the concerts happen.”
