THE MANDATE OF STAGE DRAMA – KOLA DAVID OKEOWO

THE MANDATE OF STAGE DRAMA
(a case for stage ministrations)

“…… you have persevered and have endured hardships for My Name and have not grown weary.
Yet I hold this against you: YOU HAVE FORSAKEN YOUR FIRST LOVE”
– Rev 2:4

There was a time that stage drama ministration was the starting point for anyone or ministry in the Drama ministry.
You are advised or even compelled to go around ministering on stage. You are told the advantages of ministering on stage.
Advantages like:
* Spiritual growth
* Spiritual awareness
* Direct envangelism
* Ministerial growth
* Raw anointing etc
Ministries will go on outreaches in churches, programmes and cities. Awesome ministrations with amazing testimonies following!

Then came the advent of film evangelism. Gradually, but steadily the emphasis started shifting to film. First it was combined; but now I dare say that stage drama ministration is getting far and in between.

The generation that are coming into Drama ministry nowadays are focusing mainly on film – short or feature.
But can I REMIND us that there is more to the calling of Drama Ministry than film making.
How many drama ministries and Drama ministers are still ACTIVE on stage?
– Some that started on stage feels they have outgrown it.
– Some argue that they are not getting invitations from churches as before. Could it be because we have not STEPPED UP in our PRESENTATION?

Many churches expect a 21st century compliant ministration whereas many Drama ministries are still presenting on stage as if they are in the 1990s.
I believe stage drama is our first love, can I ask us not to forsake our first love.

I agree that ones ministry is not defined by whether you do stage ministrations or not. But let it not be that you are not doing it because of the stated excuses here.

Some can give excuses and say that they have gone to other aspects of the ministry. Some can say their ministry has outgrown stage drama.
Another excuse is that stage ministrations are for the ‘youths’
Or maybe because many churches can’t accommodate long drama anymore.

But as the church of God has evolved in many areas, our stage ministrations also need to evolve:
1. Can we do more short
dramas? – 10 to 20mins. Instead of insisting on full lengths dramas like before?
2. Can we choose to organise drama presentations/ programmes ourselves?
3. Let us also step up our presentations to be 21st century compliant.
PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT WATERING DOWN THE MESSAGE. I am talking about PRESENTATION.

Let us seek knowledge. Many of our stage ministrations are not presented with skills (read Psalm 33:3). Let us seek the face of God more. Lets stay in His presence for the RAW MOVE OF GOD that accompanies anointed stage ministrations.

I recognise the REMNANTS who have not stopped ministering on stage . May God continue to enable you.
To the majority who think that stage drama is no longer the ‘in thing’, I dare say that you are mistaken.
Let us embrace it again and see God move mightily through our ministrations in Jesus name.
LET THE STAGE DRAMA ARM OF THE DRAMA & FILM MINISTRY COME ALIVE AGAIN IN JESUS NAME.
