Man dies after queuing for many hours in the bank

A man has reportedly lost his life in a commercial bank after spending hours in a long queue trying to get his Automatic Teller Machine card.

The incident happened inside the banking hall on Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2023.

An Eye-witness, Omole Mike, shared a photo of the deceased and wrote;

‘Just now, at about 1:30 pm. Somebody collapsed and died in the First bank of Nigeria, Agbor Branch. The Date is on 02-02-2023. May his Soul Rest in Peace. It is well.’

.The CBN had on Monday, January 20, 2023, instructed that banks should stop payment of new naira notes over-the-counter while encouraging bank customers to use electronic means for transactions.

It was gathered that the yet-to-identified man visited his bank branch at Agbor, Delta State to get his ATM but met a very long queue.

In his determination, the middle-age-man stood for hours like every other customer who were waiting to be attended to by the bank’s representation.

However, on Thursday, 2nd February, he was said to have slumped and died after complaining of pain.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Delta state, DSP Bright Edafe, said the deceased came to the bank to collect his ATM card.

He noted that the deceased was at the bank to collect his Automated Teller Machine card before the unfortunate incident.

His words: ‘He was not trying to withdraw cash; he came to collect his ATM card.

He said, ”He was not trying to withdraw cash; he came to collect his ATM card,”

Nigerians have expressed the painful experience they endure in commercial banks to withdraw cash following the redesign of N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the attendant scarcity.

Many banks and ATMs have yet to dispense either old or new notes.
