I can finally stop thinking about dying – Nigerian lady celebrates life anew after successful kidney transplant

A Nigerian lady identified as Adaobi Adibe, has emerged victorious after undergoing a successful kidney transplant, bringing an end to her two-year battle with kidney disease.

Adaobi took to Twitter on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, to share her remarkable journey and newfound lease on life.

Adaobi’s social media announcement was met with an outpouring of support and celebration from friends, family, and well-wishers.

She wrote;

“Tears of joy today. After two years I am finally on the transplant list. I actually cried on the bus! Yesterday was also day 1 of my organ regeneration experiments. The whole thing just feels very poetic.

Now we wait..again. The average waiting time is ~3 years, but I’m choosing to be optimistic and hopeful. At least I am on the list! Was genuinely scared I would never make it (this was my third attempt to get on it)

At the same time, I just realized I am waiting for the “perfect match” for me to die and again, that is saddening and unsettling.”

She shared her joy with a series of tweets that captured the incredible relief and happiness she was experiencing following the successful surgery.

She wrote;

“Guys. I just had my transplant surgery. After just 4 weeks on the transplant list. Do you know how insane that is?!?!?!?!? I had mentally prepared myself for 3 years. I am still in shock,”

“No more dialysis!!!!!!!!!!! I can finally swim!!!! 30 hours of my week are back. I can finally travel. I can move (hopefully next year!!). No more cramps!!!!! No more nausea!!!!!!! No more vomiting!!!!!! No more fatigue!!!!!!

“It finally feels like for the first time in 2 years I can finally stop thinking about dying. Like really. Not thinking about how much time I may have left.”
