“What! Pastor Kingsley shouted in anger. The whole scene was so embarrassing for Sola that she couldnt look up at her pastor who was furious at the moment. She wasnt sure why he was really angry. “I can’t believe this. You mean you did all of that? Especially having sex with your father-in-law? Pastor Kingsley dunked his head in the palms of his hands.
I felt I had no choice sir
“What a wicked tradition Pastor kingsley rested his back on his chair. “This is a lie from devil and you’ve sinned against God. Does your parent know about everything?
“Yes. At least they know about the family rites but not the other things Victor did”
“What else did Victor do? pastor asked furiously.
“I and my husband engaged in sexual immorality before we got married, since the day we did it, I have been in bondage of masturbation. He has not even touched me since we got married
“You mean you satisfy your sexual desires by masturbating?
“Yes sir she nodded her head to reply her pastor. “What really brought me here is that I don’t know how to go back to the cross, I have lost the way to the cross. I don’t even know how to communicate with God anymore the tension in the room was high.
My husband beats me like a punching bag, has no respect for me anymore, leaves the house and comes back anytime bringing in different ladies and have sex with them even if I’m at home”
“My God” Pastor lamented.
“He doesn’t care about the way I feel and I cant confront him for being wrong because if I do, he will beat me mercilessly. Today before he left, I went to him and apologized to him because I thought I offended and I wanted peace to reign but proved futile”
“I just felt it but I didnt want to believe it. I’m so surprise to hear this, Sola” Pastor managed to add.
“But I just thank God for making you realize your mistake. I want you to erase the mindset of God not forgiving you. Hes your father and he knows your shortcomings so He will forgive you. Sola, if you really want God to forgive your sins, you must also forgive those who offend you and that includes Your husband, your parents, your in-laws, most especially your husbands father”
“Ah!”. Sola lamented.
“God is always ready to forgive you but if you want him to do so, you must also forgive others. Both Unforgiveness and bitterness, you have to lay them down to Jesus because when you hold on to things in your heart, it creates more bitterness, anger, hatred. Sola! Are you ready to forgive?” he looked at her desperately waiting for an answer.
“Yes Pastor. I forgive my husband and everyone that has offended me” she cried bitterly.
“Congratulations, that’s the first step to your freedom. I will pray for you now and I want you to go back to God when you leave this place” they joined their hands together and prayed.
“Thanks so much sir” she stood up, wiped her tears and adjusted herself.
“Do you mind if I talk to your husband, do you know when he will be back?” Pastor asked.
“Please sir, don’t tell my husband about this. I will be really grateful if you can be praying for us but dont tell him. I will try all my best to come to Church as I am permitted”
“Alright. But we have to sort this out one way or the other he replied and Sola who was preparing to make her exit. She left with so much peace in her that at least her pastor now knows and is with her on this. Most especially the boldness she now has to go back to God.
Sola left the living room with a little amount of peace. For a minute, it felt like everything was falling in place.
“Wait! Stephen called out as she was about to leave the main gate that guarded the house. She turned to see his worried and heartbroken face. It was obvious that he either knew what had happened or heard a little to get worried. That was enough for Sola to start feeling embarrassed.
“Just let me give you a ride home. I dont want you to go about the street looking like a hot mess
“You really don’t need to disturb yourself. I will take care of myself she replied, trying to avoid any form of discussion with him.
“Like you have been doing right? Come on, I insist the look he gave spoke that he wasnt getting a no for an answer. Without no further question, she followed.
They both sat in the car stealing glances at each other. The only time they spoke to each other was when Stephen wanted to ask for the next direction and when she wanted to give the direction.
“How much of the discussion between the pastor and I did you hear?”
“Lets just say everything” he smiled.
Feeling embarrassed, she needed to change the atmosphere of the car.
“How has been the preparation for your wedding been?
“God is helping us the excitement in his voice as he said those words broke Sola. God wasnt involved in a single detail of her big day. He was far gone.
“Who is the lucky lady?”
“Its Sayo. You should know her Sola
“I need the full details Stephen
“Sayo Adekunle the shock on Solas face made Stephen burst out in laughter. I’m telling you this because of our closeness so dont even give me that judges eye roll
“When we were in school, Sayo was my course mate, and what turned me off about her was her unseriousness about the things of God and you know how that can get me? typical Stephen.
The boyfriends she had could fill up a classroom which made her have several bad appointments with her doctors. To her, it was nothing. Are you surprised? he asked.
“Our God is mysterious God. We both were later posted to the same location during our youth service. One fateful day, I went out for an evangelism and met her alone around my area, exchanged greetings casually because of her depressed mood but she wouldnt share. After few conversations, she opened up about her life and how things had gotten bad Stephen said with a shaky voice.
She told me how she couldnt have children. That was my perfect opportunity to introduce her to Christ. It didnt really go well at first but I ended up getting through .
“What was her story” Sola asked.
“She was born into a Christian home, her parents really loved God and they devoted all their life to God. That was why she loved coming to church but never had Jesus. But one fateful day, they both agreed to quit their jobs and start winning souls for God. Her parent had a fatal accident when they were doing going for evangelism. They both died few hours apart. She was just fifteen years old while her brother was just twelve at the time.
“That’s terrible” Sola lamented.
The only person they could go to was their uncle where she lost her brother. Everyone trusted him to take care of her with everything her parent left behind but unfortunately he raped her and took advantage of her. He died in her 100 level first semester
“That’s barbaric” Sola cried out.
“I had to remind her of how much Jesus loved her and was intentional about her. I reminded her about her final destination.
“How come nobody knew about all of this?” Sola asked.
“Thats because she always snuck in and out of Church till our university. I introduced her to a greater love and at that very moment, she gave her life to Christ. I had never seen her as beautiful as she was that day”
“Its so sad” Sola empathized.
“The main reason I was so eager to share this story with you is so you know that you are not too broken to be fixed. I want you to seek God deliberately and with all your heart. 1 Chronicles 16:11 says seek the LORD and his strength, seek his presence continually!” Sola turns her face away in embarrassment.
“Thanks so much” she whispered loud enough for Stephen to hear.
“you’re welcome” he parked his car. “If I’m correct, we are here Sola”
“yes we are” she sluggishly alighted from the vehicle and waved Stephen bye. He smiled and drove away. Immediately Sola arrived her house, she raced down to her room in tears. She fell on her knees and cried out genuinely for the very first time since she lost her way room and knelt down to pray.
“Lord Jesus, I’m so sorry for all my sins. Holy Spirit, Im so sorry to disobeyed you. I know I don’t worth to come back to your presence but your word says, I know you won’t cast me out. I have realized my mistakes oh lord. Even your words says You will have mercy on whom you will have mercy on, Please have mercy on me oh lord mucus made her voice crack as she shouted at the top of her voice with her arms widely opened.
“I have come to you in the name of Jesus Christ your son. Show me your mercy oh lord! My father! My father! I surrender my body, soul and spirit to your will and I align my body, soul and spirit to the spirit of God in the name of Jesus” there was a great rush of peace as she ended her prayers. That was enough she needed to know she wasn’t alone anymore. One bible passage that kept resounding in her ears as she laid still on the floor was James 1:2; count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.
She sat up all going over the bible verse over and over again with understanding to the word with a joyful heart.
Three days later
Sola was sleeping in her room when she heard a knock on the door. Racing to door with the joy that it would be her husband
“Who’s there?” she asked giggling behind the door.
“Sayo! Is this really you?” they both hugged.
They were hardly friends when they were younger but the feeling of knowing everything Sayo had been through and how she found the light in the midst of it all.
“Oh! Forgive my manners, come in as she was about to step in, Stephen appeared from behind.
“You are looking better today Sola” he said hugging her.
“That’s because I feel better today. Please sit down”
“Sola, I’m so sorry we had to come unannounced but Sayo insisted we paid you a visit. I would have given you a heads up but your line was switched off”
“It’s okay. As for my line, I really didnt want to be bothered by anyone and so I turned it off. But I am extremely happy to see Sayo again”
“I’m also happy to see you too Sola” Sayo blushed as she spoke.
“so what can I offer you both?”
“We are here to eat all you have to offer us and drink till we are full but first…
“Can you give me few minutes, I can hear my phone ring, let me just quickly take it. It might be those who have been trying to reach me Sola cut Stephen as she races to the bedroom to receive her call. It was victor’s call. The excitement, anger, pain and a whole lot of emotion rushed in. but she couldnt deny the fact that she had missed him.
“So you just remembered you have a wife you left behind she teased.”
“The owner of this phone was involved in a ghastly motor accident and has been with us for the past two days. We have tried your number which was his emergency contact but we couldnt get through. My nurses were supposed to follow up other contacts with the police but we are sorry for their negligence”
“Jesus! Sola screamed. “Which hospital?”
“New life hospital beside Cleveland mall in Lagos state.”
“I know the place. I will be there very soon, Thanks”. She races out to the living room in panic. “My husband had a fatal accident, hes in new life hospital beside Cleveland mall.”
“Oh No, is he okay?” Sayo asked.
“Let’s go together please” Stephen cut in as they all rush out of the living room to Stephen’s car
“God please have mercy on him was all Sola would whisper as they began their journey to the hospital.
It was the longest journey so far because neither one of them knew what to expect, if victor was dead or alive. All they could do was hope for a good news. As they got in the hospital, one of the nurses directed them to the Doctor, Stephen followed her but Sayo waited outside in the waiting room interceding.
“Were you the one I spoke with on the phone?” the doctor asked.
“Yes sir. Where’s my husband?” she asked in fear.
“Your husband is in a very critical condition. He was involved in an accident and was brought in. by the time we did all we could, we discovered that there was a huge damage to his brain”
“What! Jesus!!” -She fainted in shock as Stephen and the Doctor rushed to her aid.
