FAITH-BASED, GOSPEL OR SECULAR… FILMMAKING IS FILMMAKING – KUNLE ADEPOJU

KUNLE ADEPOJU AT FILM LOCATION (gospel films)

Nigerian gospel filmmaker blessed with immense knowledge and also the gift of teaching cinematography, Kunle Adepoju took to his Facebook account on the 21st of July, 2019 to celebrate Mojisola Ogunlana on her birthday with her latest film production titled 1 in 50,000, a movie that received the award of the Best Educational movie at the 2019 Gofestival award.

Attached to the post to celebrate the producer of the movie 1 in 50,000, Kunle Adepoju dropped a filmmaking tip that gave the impression that gospel, faith based or secular film production have many intersections since they all make use of the same tools, machineries, techniques and also reach out to the same audience, but the message makes the difference.

However, at the early hours of today, he posted on his Facebook Page (MEFA) to make clarity and also to buttress the filmmaking tips attached to the birthday post so that many can understand better what he meant.

READ HIS POST BELOW;

FILMMAKING IS 100% FILMMAKING

Monday, on Kunle Adepoju’s weekly filmmaking tip, I hint us about this topic. And now, I choose to elaborate, a little we can touch. “Don’t be deceived! Filmmaking is filmmaking. Faith based, gospel or secular… We have all things in common but one. We use the same tool, same machinery, same techniques, reach the same audience. But one thing differs -the message. Yet it is driven by the common”.

Now, let me buttress.

Before any power spark, there is always two poles( Life and Neutral). Before Magnet can attract, there is a North Pole and South Pole. In any of the above, one Pole stands as the common. Electricity explains this better. The common Pole is the neutral, while the life can be Red phase, Blue phase or Yellow phase. Connecting common (nuetral) to any of these will bring a spark and the world gets illuminated. On the other hand connecting the three life phases without the nuetral will not bring the desired results.

Now, my point is Filmmaking has its nuetral phase, the common link. This makes it 100% complete. This neutral point are the tools and the machinery. The life phase is your own choice way of passing your information, you can call it message or story as it is applied to you. The Red, Blue or Yellow phases I mean.

However, the common powers the effectiveness of the life. No nuetral, no life. Therefore, if you work your own Filmmaking out of the common principle, you may likely confuse your audience. Now, this is common to us all as filmmakers. Whether Secular, Faith-Based, Gospel or Evangelical, or any one that will still come up, we work on the following to make our films.

1. The script

2. The crew

3. The casts

4. The camera, light and sound (cinematography)

5. The set, costumes and props(prod. Design)

6. The Audience

and other drivers of a good movie. But our messages or stories are the Life that is powered by the common nuetral. I tell you with all assurance that telling your story is 100% Filmmaking as you cannot make your movie without the lists of the common. I hope this is cleared? Thanks so much for reading.
